Miguel’s also runs a climbing gear shop at the far end of the campground, providing clothing, water bottles, guidebooks, and climbing-specific gear. There is one central fire ring, a hangout room with puzzles and seating, and also slacklines strung between the trees behind the pavilion. Wi-Fi, showers, bathrooms, a dishwashing station, and a washer and dryer are also available. A large pavilion provides space for campers to cook and store their belongings, and a patchwork of fields creates ample room for tents. Miguel’s is a cultural hotspot for climbers, with camping prices at only $3.50 a night, a parking lot for car campers, and opportunities for long-term stays. Don’t forget to try Kentucky’s famous “Ale-8’s,” a delicious version of ginger ale served in old-school glass bottles. Since 1984, this family-owned restaurant has been serving fresh, customizable pizzas to both the local community and adventure tourists alike. Miguel’s Pizza is a Red River Gorge icon. Miguel’s Pizza, Campground, and Gear Shop When visiting Muir Valley, remember to pay the $10 per vehicle parking fee and sign the waiver before venturing into the valley! There are over 7 miles of red Corbin Sandstone cliffs to explore climbing in Muir Valley is one of the best things to do in the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. Some crags even boast areas to learn skills before leaving the ground. ![]() Rock climbers will enjoy the feel of an indoor gym transported to the outdoors–the climbs are all well-bolted, with small tags displaying route names and grades. Waterfalls and caves hide around corners, waiting to be discovered. One of the best Red River Gorge activities, hikers will enjoy the well-marked trails, looming red cliffs, and meandering stream at the valley floor. This web of well-maintained hiking trails leads down into a gorgeous valley, bursting with ferns, rhododendron, and other beautiful local flora and fauna. The tunnel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Muir Valley, a 360-acre nonprofit nature reserve and rock climbing park, is the perfect hiking and climbing oasis. It was built so that the logging company could haul logs out of the gorge by railroad. The tunnel was built by the Dana Lumber Company and named for a long-gone logging town (Nada, KY). The tunnel is just 12′ by 13′ in size and open to one-lane traffic only. Nada Tunnel – KY 77 offers the 900-foot Nada Tunnel which provides a unique way to enter the Red River Gorge. Gladie Cabin – The Gladie Historic Site offers a restored log cabin that dates back to the late 19th century when it was used as a post office. The center is open from spring through the fall. Maps, passes, souvenirs and books are available for purchase at the center. ![]() Visitors are able to visit the center to take a rest, ask questions, and learn about the Red River Gorge. The cultural heritage of the river – along with its many resources – is highlighted at the learning center. Gladie Cultural-Environmental Learning Center – The learning center offers many exhibits that are both informative and interesting to visitors. The Red River’s upper stretches flow over boulders through a narrow gorge lined by cliffs and overhanging rock ledges, mature trees, and thickets of flowers. In 1985, Congress named this same portion a National Wild River. This portion of the river is upstream from Copperas Creek.
